POSITION DESCRIPTION
Enterprise Data Modeling (EDM) technical writing effort focuses on the development and maintenance of various technical documents for ASDF products and artifacts. These artifacts may include:
Logical data models and descriptions.
Physical schema outputs like XML Schema Documents (XSDs), Data Definition Language (DDL) files, Resource Description Framework Schemas (RDFS), and Google Protocol Buffers.
Data Element Dictionaries.
Users and Implementation Guides, how-to guides, and instruction manuals.
Schema encoding guide and documentation.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Explaining technical ideas in simple language.
Write technical direction on product announcements, marketing brochures, advertisements, and marketing specifications.
Meet with customer representatives, vendors, etc. to establish technical specifications.
Study UML drawings, specifications, format instances, and product samples.
Gather information on their subject, as required.
Create user documentation for a variety of products and artifacts (listed above).
Follow a life cycle called document development life cycle.
Provide updates and different editions as necessary.
In addition, the ASDF technical writer is responsible for understanding the EDM website content sufficiently enough to provide technical input on an as needed basis. The applicant will work closely with the other members of the EDM team to help document complete solutions across the team deliverables. This includes active participation in the EDM Enterprise Data Dictionary (EDD).
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with a minimum of 1-3 years of professional experience as a System Engineer, Information Architecture, or Application Programming on systems that encompass information design / engineering.
Required skills:Knowledge of data modeling and mapping. Knowledge of customer legacy data formats and ASDF. Proven ability to write technical information for developers and systems engineers.
Desired skills:System development within a defined paradigm, knowledge of information standards and policies. Experience with UML design tools and / or data modeling is a plus especially with UML or ERD. Knowledge of OWL is a plus. Superior interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of customers.
Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance with polygraph is required.
