Position Summary Teaching Clinic Supervising Faculty members provide instruction to and oversee student clinical treatment experiences both in virtual clinic and in-person on campus as needed.
These experiences include a) treatments performed by our master s level and doctoral level acupuncture students during their clinical training in our on site Natural Care Center (NCC), b) telehealth treatments provided by our students virtually, c) case study sessions based on de-identified real cases from the faculty member s personal practice and follow-up assessment and discussion of student treatment planning, and d) NCCAOM-style case discussions, incorporating the language and analysis necessary to become comfortable with the wording and thought processes of the NCCOAM exam.
Morning Clinic Shifts, both virtual and on campus, take place weekly during the hours of 9:
00 am-1:
45 pm Evening Clinic Shifts, both virtual and on campus, take place weekly during the hours of 3:
30-8:
15 pm Saturday Evening Shifts, on campus, take place weekly during the hours of 2:
45-7:

Faculty Duties:
Supervise and participate in the learning experience of and acupuncture treatment experiences administered by the student practitioners, including rapport skills, assessment, treatment planning, needling, Akabane testing, moxa, cupping, gua sha, all related paperwork, clinical thought processes, and patient management Oversee the appropriate, safe, effective, immediate and long-term care of the students patients while in the NCC and/or virtual clinic, while allowing students to have a key voice in treatment design and execution Model professional demeanor, clinical skill, and ethical behavior for student practitioners Provide appropriate supervision, assessment, progress monitoring, and feedback to students during their clinical training including offering support, coaching, and motivation to facilitate students successful completion of the clinical experience.
Discern and remember the distinction between one s own practice and a beginner s practice when supervising student practitioners.
Assist the other Teaching Clinic Supervising Faculty with:
any situations that may occur during the clinic shift, including emergencies ensuring the policies and procedures of the Student Teaching Clinic are followed at all times the accurate completion of students end of trimester file reviews and assessments Attend Clinic Faculty meetings once per trimester and any additional trainings for the Teaching Clinic Supervising Faculty as needed to align Clinic with the current AOM curriculum.
Work in partnership with students, other Clinic Supervising Faculty, the NCC Director and staff, and the Director of Clinical Education as needed Substitute for and/or trade with other Teaching Clinic Supervising Faculty as schedules permit, to insure a seamless clinic experience for all students and their patients.
Notify IT and Online of any issues with virtual clinic access, forms or equipment and let the Director of Clinical Education know of any such issues.
Notify the NCC staff when supplies are needed in either the treatment rooms or Core Group Room Oversee the daily maintenance and restoration to neutral of both the treatment rooms used by students during the shift and the Core Group Room Participate annually in Commencement activities and 1-2 acupuncture faculty meetings per year.
Follow all MUIH policies and procedures regarding vaccinations, health requirements, and occupational safety and health training.
Complete any and all documents required to be covered the University s insurance policy and notify MUIH immediately of any claims against the insured or the insured s license Other With the community culture in mind, employee will serve on committees as needed Perform other duties as assigned Education and Experience Qualifications Required:
Master of Acupuncture or Master of Oriental Medicine degree Current license to practice acupuncture in the state of Maryland Minimum of 2.
5 years of experience in a medium sized (10
patients/wk) acupuncture practice Clean Needle Technique certification A working understanding of both Classical Five Element Acupuncture and Patterns of Disharmony Preferred:
Doctor of Acupuncture or Doctor of Oriental Medicine degree or equivalent 5
years of practice experience Chinese Herbal Medicine training Adjunct faculty status or rank according to MUIH s Appointment, Rank, and Promotion Policy (ARP) Currently teaching in the AOM program Publications and/or Research Skills and Abilities Professional demeanor Excellent clinical abilities with a willingness to learn new skills (including point location skills) Proficient practice management skills Highly developed interpersonal, and communication skills Work Environment/Physical Requirements This job operates in a professional office environment.
