Summary:
Seeking a Microbiologist, I to support research projects developing methods to isolate, detect, and characterize foodborne viral pathogens.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Work requires the use of scientific methods, procedures and techniques in cell culture, virology, and molecular biology.
The focus of this position will be on cell line maintenance and viral propagation.
Secondary activities will be to provide molecular virology support to senior level researchers by performing RNA/DNA extractions, PCR, and next generation sequencing.
NECESSARY SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
Experience maintaining cell cultures and propagate virus.
Record and analyze results, organize data, perform basic computations, and develop reports and summaries of analyses.
Operate basic and advanced laboratory equipment, including laminar flow hoods, incubators, thermal cyclers, and another lab equipment.
Perform nucleic acid extractions Prepare samples to run on PCR or qPCR equipment and samples to run on next generation sequencers.
Run samples on next generation sequesncers Experience operating Next Generation Sequencers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.
1 - 2 years' experience in cell culture with knowledge of safe laboratory practices.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with molecular biology lab techniques such as qRT-PCR, nucleic acid extraction, and next generation sequencing are required.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
